Meet our Music Therapist

Music therapy is “a research-based practice and profession in which music is used to actively support people as they strive to improve their health, functioning and wellbeing” (Australian Music Therapy Association). It is a recognised allied health profession, and AMTA is a member of Allied Health Professions Australia (AHPA).

For children, music therapy is delivered by Registered Music Therapists, who are highly skilled, university-trained musicians. They work alongside children, families, support workers and other health professionals to set goals and track progress. Through singing, song writing, improvisation, music recreation and listening, within a supportive therapeutic relationship, they help children build communication, social, physical, cognitive and emotional skills.
