We support babies and children with cerebral palsy, including children with hemiplegia, where one side of the body is more affected than the other. Each child’s program is tailored to their abilities, their challenges and their goals, with a focus on developing their functional skills while having fun.
Every child with CP has their own strengths and challenges, so we tailor therapy to their needs, using techniques like CME, and electrical stimulation (NISE-Stim) to improve mobility and access to their environment, independence, and participation in daily life.
We offer bimanual hand therapy programs to help children develop their ability to use both hands together. Many everyday activities need the hands to do different jobs, for example, one hand holds the paper while the other draws, or one hand steadies a container while the other opens it. Through carefully chosen play experiences, we give children opportunities to practise these skills, with activities adapted so they can participate successfully while being challenged to develop their hand use further.
Constraint-Induced Movement Therapy (CIMT) supports children with hemiplegia to develop the use of their more affected arm and hand. This involves temporarily limiting use of the less affected hand, usually with a mitt, while the child participates in carefully chosen activities using their more affected hand. Our programs provide repeated opportunities to practise reaching, grasping, releasing and manipulating toys and everyday objects.
NISE-Stim stands for Non-Invasive Spinal Electrical Stimulation. It uses small electrodes placed on the skin over the spine and selected areas of the body to deliver electrical stimulation, with the aim of supporting muscle activation and movement. At Quickstepz, we consider this as an additional tool within a child’s individual therapy program, alongside active play and movement practice. Suitability is assessed for each child, with their medical history, therapy goals and response guiding its use. It is used in various conditions, not just Cerebral Palsy.
LusioMATE brings movement practice into interactive games. Small wearable sensors connect to an app, allowing your child’s movements to control the game. Movement targets can be adjusted around their abilities and goals, giving them a fun reason to keep reaching, moving and practising. It can be used in the clinic or as part of a guided home program, with the therapist able to review progress and adjust the movement goals. It is another way to make repeated practice engaging and give children more opportunities to work towards their goals. LusioMATE is used in various conditions, not just Cerebral Palsy.
