Music therapy is “a research-based practice and profession in which music is used to actively support people as they strive to improve their health, functioning and wellbeing” (Australian Music Therapy Association). It is a recognised allied health profession, and AMTA is a member of Allied Health Professions Australia (AHPA).
For children, music therapy is delivered by Registered Music Therapists, who are highly skilled, university-trained musicians. They work alongside children, families, support workers and other health professionals to set goals and track progress.
Through singing, song writing, improvisation, music recreation and listening, within a supportive therapeutic relationship, they help children build communication, social, physical, cognitive and emotional skills.
Eudora is an AMTA Registered Music Therapist with more than 30 years’ clinical experience. She provides evidence-based, culturally aware, and goal-directed interventions for children, adolescents and adults with diverse developmental, neurological and psychosocial needs. She has special interests in early intervention for children with complex needs, autism, and children with hearing and visual loss.
Eudora’s experience includes strength-based, person-centred individual and group therapy at diverse settings including multidisciplinary clinics, family-based inclusive early intervention playgroups, and the Westmead Children’s Hospital Rett Syndrome Management Clinic. She enjoys working in collaboration with families, schools and multidisciplinary teams to ensure the best outcomes for the people that she works with.
Eudora is passionate about using music to foster communication and connection, helping people realise their potential. She finds it heartening to watch people discover themselves and the world through music, and has seen remarkable growth and transformation during therapy.
A few details are enough to start. Kate will give you a call (or email, if that suits you better) to talk through whether music therapy suits your child.
