Telehealth Occupational Therapy Across Australia

Quickstepz provides telehealth Occupational Therapy services for families across Australia. Telehealth can be your child’s main way of accessing our OT service, without attending in-person appointments, or it can complement their existing therapy program.

Our sessions use a parent coaching model, with a focus on understanding your child, strengthening connection and making everyday life more manageable. Your child does not need to sit in front of a screen; the appointment is an opportunity for us to work together with you.

Telehealth for regional and remote families

For families living in regional or remote communities, telehealth allows you to access support from our OTs without travelling to the clinic. Children can receive their Occupational Therapy support entirely through telehealth, with parent coaching tailored to their needs and your family’s priorities.

We work alongside you to develop practical ways to support your child at home, reviewing their progress and adapting strategies together over time.

Parent coaching

You know your child best. We bring our understanding of development and work alongside you to explore their strengths, interests and the things they find difficult. We consider what your child may be communicating through their responses, what helps them feel comfortable and engaged, and how routines or environments may be affecting their participation.

Together, we explore ways to support your child’s feelings, sensory needs and regulation, while also considering your own needs and capacity. The aim is to develop practical approaches that work for your family and create more opportunities for enjoyable interactions and learning.

Telehealth gives parents space to pause, reflect on recent experiences, ask questions and discuss what is working or where more support is needed. We may observe you and your child during play or a familiar routine, support you to try an idea, or spend the appointment talking through concerns together. Your child does not need to be present for parent-only appointments, allowing important matters to be discussed openly.

Telehealth sessions may focus on

  • Building connection, shared attention and enjoyable play.
  • Understanding sensory needs and supporting regulation.
  • Responding to big feelings and setting supportive boundaries.
  • Making transitions and self-care routines more achievable.
  • Addressing toileting challenges and developing independence in toileting.
  • Teacher collaboration, education and support to help your child participate at preschool or school.

We look beyond an individual task to consider the people, expectations and environments around your child. Sometimes a change in how an activity is presented, the support available or the pace of a routine can give your child a better opportunity to participate.

Telehealth alongside therapy sessions

For children already attending in-person sessions with our OTs, telehealth provides additional time for parent coaching, reflection and shared planning. There can be a lot happening in a child’s therapy session, and it is not always easy to find time for a detailed conversation. These appointments allow us to discuss progress, home routines and important matters without your child needing to be present.

Telehealth appointments with an OT can also complement your child’s sessions with our Allied Health Assistants (AHAs), helping connect their therapy program with everyday life.

We tailor this support to your family’s priorities, with manageable steps that can be reviewed and adjusted together.
